CVS Veterinary Externships
Carthage Veterinary Service, Ltd. offers opportunities to veterinary students to participate in a veterinary externship program. Students will work along veterinarians during their externship. Site visits will include herd evaluations, necropsies, serological profiling, ventilation auditing, as well as biosecurity auditing. Non-veterinary experience may include pig flows, production targets, record analysis, sow and/or wean-to-finish research with our Ph.D. nutritionist and research team as well as farm production visits with production teams. Externs will participate in herd staff discussions and will write a herd visit reports.
Our externship program is open to all full-time college and veterinary students who have completed at least two full years of school and are studying veterinary medicine.

Students selected must obtain Professional Liability Insurance prior to their externship.
• Length of externship is up to two weeks
• 40-50 hours per week
Housing is provided for externs.

We are a member of the Swine Disease Eradication Center - University of Minnesota. This is a center dedicated to research in disease transmission and methods to eliminate. This center has led the industry in PRRS, Mycoplasma, and SIV aerosol transmission. Its research in filtration has redefined herd biosecurity.
