BASIC FUNCTION:

The Research Scientist will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of the CISS multidisciplinary swine research program, including study design, research protocol development, data collection methodology and quality control, data analysis and report writing and presentation.  The Research Scientist will coordinate communication between research operations personnel and sponsors regarding study execution and results, and provide strong technical support to internal and external stakeholders.  Additionally, the Research Scientist will be responsible for overseeing a team of data management and analytics associates, maintaining a research prioritization matrix and pipeline, and will participate in CISS business development efforts.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and audit studies that focus on novel ideas, real world problems and products and adhere to sound scientific principles
  • Develop research protocols, conduct data analysis, write final research reports, and present research results to appropriate audiences
  • Provide data analysis services to internal and external customers
  • Lead and develop a cohesive, sustainable, and scalable team of research professionals
  • Continuously improve research execution processes to drive efficiency and cost control
  • Work collaboratively with other companies inside the Carthage system (CVS and PSM) to coordinate trial execution
  • Work directly with research partners to identify needs, long-term goals and ultimately maintain and grow CISS business opportunities
  • Actively seek out new business for CISS through networking and customer relationships
  • Establish formal training programs to develop technical and leadership capacity within CISS employees
  • Establish a research quality management system and assist the Senior Research Manager with its implementation
  • Lead a team of data management and analysis professionals through strong communication, priority setting, and daily coaching
  • Conduct literature reviews that provide technical support to clients and generate novel ideas
  • Ensure that all projects meet Animal Care requirements
  • Perform any work necessary for data collection (weighing, treatment assignment, feed collections, etc)
  • Adhere to company confidentiality policies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management

Education and Work Experience:

  1. Ph.D degree OR
  2. A Masters degree in Animal Science AND
  3. 5 years experience in the Animal Science Field
