Health Coordinator Assistant

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

The Health Coordinator Assistant assists the Health Coordinator to oversee the health data for The Carthage System and outside clients. This position will implement the health strategy in the health strategic plan, assist with health break follow ups, biosecurity audits at the truck wash facility, vehicle and equipment inspection, educate vendors on biosecurity, and participate in proactive biosecurity initiatives. This position will report directly to the Health Coordinator.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the health data for the system
  • Charts diagnostic results
  • Assists in health break investigation and timeline
  • Conducts biosecurity audits of the truck wash facility as assigned and carries out the biosecurity plan for the facility as lined out by the Health Coordinator
  • Schedules and coordinates planning of biosecurity meetings for vendors, clients and internal/external customers
  • Assists as needed with training vendors and internal/external clients and customers on biosecurity
  • Helps execute the health control program set forth by the Health Director and Veterinary team
  • Adheres and ensures others are adhering to health protocols
  • Helps manage the vaccination schedules and maintains information files
  • Performs vehicle inspections
  • Performs disinfection and inspection procedures on vendor equipment/supplies
  • Maintains open communication with the Health Coordinator, Health Director, Veterinarians, Production Teams and farm managers
  • Complies with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS)
  • Complies with the practices and principals of biosecurity to safeguard the life and health of the swine herds
  • Visit farms for inspections, sample collection, audits, etc as required
  • Assists with other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or equivalent is preferred AND
  • 2-3 years related experience in swine herd health  AND/OR
  • A combination of a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or equivalent and experience

Knowledge and Skills:

Possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills; written and verbal communication skills; Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data integrity, analysis and data interpretation, strong attention to detail

  • Demonstrate ability to excel within an accelerated work environment

  • Possess the motivation to work within a team based work environment as well as independently

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to multi-task and drive projects to completion

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, walk for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
