Veterinary/Research Facility Manager

The Veterinary/Research Facility (VRF) manager is directly responsible for overseeing research trials that are conducted at the VRF to ensure that the projects are following company standard operating procedures and trial protocols. In addition, the VRF manager will work with veterinarians on projects to assist clients in maintaining and improving herd health.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct weekly quality assurance reports on active trials
  • Verify that the trials are being ran according to protocol
  • Validate equipment and processes
  • Communicate with the farm team on projects
  • Ensure that projects meet Animal Care requirements
  • Manage alarms or emergencies as they occur
  • Communicate with Research Team so that projects are conducted according to protocol
  • Perform any work necessary for data collection (weighing, treatment assignment, feed collections, etc)
  • Adheres to the company’s confidentiality protocol
  • Follows all BSL2 procedures and ensure staff is in compliance
  • Maintains facility per USDA BSL2 guidelines
  • Manage farm staff schedules and activities as well as train new employees
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Requires knowledge of scientific research methods and standards, prior experience with pig management and animal husbandry. Knowledge of Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Access Microsoft computer programs is necessary. 

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • 1- 2 years experience in the Animal Science field is preferred   
  • Any similar combination of education and experience

  • Ability to stand on concrete for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift 15 lbs repetitively

  • Ability to push, pull, carry items on regular basis
